Title: Something's Gotta Give
Rating: G
AO3: Link
Series: Fallout: New Vegas (Courier Six, Dean Domino)
Wordcount: 315
Summary: Hard times and slow resentments in the Sierra Madre.
Remarks: There is just something uniquely maddening about desperately scrounging in every trash can for enough cigarettes to trade in for stimpaks so you can continue dragging your small frame, low END ass through a toxic hellpit in hardcore mode, only to turn around and see your companion having a casual smoke. Sir. C'mon.

Throwing up some 'sketch page' style noodling in the absence of any completed fics of late - a couple of incomplete drabblets featuring my Fallout: New Vegas characters and their borrowed best beaus. One of FNV's strengths is the complex web of power and politics it builds around the Mojave, and it's always interesting to dip into different characters' takes on the factions and their personal histories with them and the region.

Apparently it being 2023 means it's 10 years since I first played Fallout: New Vegas! Honestly startling to think about, both because this was such a distinct moment in my life and also because it does not feel like it was nearly long enough ago for a decade to have passed between. What a game! What a ride. I still wistfully dream of a remaster that won't crash on me every 15 minutes.

With FNV freshly on my mind, I found myself mocking together a rough timeline of key events for my small collective of Fallout characters, which has been lacking until now. Just a quick and easy project - until I started fleshing out some of the gaps, adding in important canon events, figuring out where things linked together...

The end result is still not a wholly complete timeline, but it's certainly the most comprehensive I've put together in 10 years and, for the first time, documents the story of my Courier 6 from innocuous start to brutal end. If I were a different sort of person, there would be a 100k fanfic in here somewhere. As it is, at least the cliffnotes are finally on paper!

war. war never changes. and neither do my player character choices. )

Cross-posting / lightly updating some old Avery materials that remain relevant, mostly for centralised storage, and partly to make up for his lack of a convenient liveblog narrative.

I picked up Fallout: New Vegas back in 2013, and proceeded to have the time of my life working my way through my very first truly open sandbox RPG I'd ever played. It also marked the first time my player character turned out to be a villain! Larkin has since been used (usually in fic) in less troubling forms as well, but her game story remains near and dear to my heart as a most unexpected ride.

This post is collated from a few old Tumblr posts written during and after the game, making up a streamlined 'liveblog' narration of my Courier 6 Larkin's rise to power in the Mojave Wasteland.

Wordcount: 851
Summary: Larkin's just a terrible date sometimes tbh.
Remarks: Kris wrote me a thing (and then a bunch more things, good lord why are my friends all so prolific) so naturally I had to write silly little a thing in return. It's my vain hope that it's not glaringly obvious when I started running out of time and hastily flung an ending at it.

Summary: It was said a charging brahmin bull could hit seventeen miles an hour at full stride. By Larkin’s estimation, that rumour came in a few miles short of the truth.
Remarks: Silly misadventures - technically a pre-adventure to All's Unfair. The other characters referenced belong to friends.

Title: Any Port In A Storm
Rating: G
Series: Fallout New Vegas ('courier faction' original characters)
Wordcount: 1385
Remarks: Context - a number of us from a tumblr fandom group ended up playing Fallout: New Vegas around the same time and liveblogging the experience. One day, I posited the idea of our couriers all meeting in some alternate universe, another individual said the words "courier faction", and things proceeded to spiral out of control in all the best ways. As such, the only character I own in any way is Larkin; the rest belong to the other assorted participants. (I will note that the reason Larkin has a twin is another individual and I started playing the game independently within a fortnight of each other, and on top of that managed to choose very similar designs. We decided this was the next logical step.) It's terribly dorky but also a lot of fun.
