Title: Persuasion
Rating: PG
Series: Fallout: New Vegas (Larkin, Avery)
Wordcount: 220
Summary: Larkin asks for a favour.
Remarks: A short scene spawned from the simple premise of "hm, I wonder how these two characters would get on" (the answer is 'badly').
The boarded up window of the back room only let past two slivers of light, casting thin streams across to the opposite wall that captured every swirl of dust and smoke that strayed across their path. Larkin swung one leg steadily from her perch on the single table, watching the lit end of the cigarette as it bobbed around in the gloom in time to the jerky gestures of the pacing figure.
“You know what I thought about this morning? How it’d feel to be taken by a gecko. See, they’re not known for their patience, geckos. They get you down on the ground, there’s nothing to do but sing silent regrets that they don’t care to wait until you’ve stopped twitching before they take the meat between your ribs. Ugly way to go. Very ugly.” The tip flared on a sharp inhale, and then in two long strides he was in front of her, glowering down. “And still a damn sight better end than what I’d face for rooting through the fucking confidentials!”
She scratched delicately behind one ear. “Reckon I’m hearing a bit of a no in there.”
The cigarette was stubbed out against the wall and then a grimy finger stabbed in her direction, giving her a clear look at the rough-bitten nail. “Piss off,” Avery said.
