Title: Embryonic
Rating: G
Genre: Modern
Wordcount: 147
Summary: In which Alex wakes up and then wakes up.
Remarks: Set during the first couple of weeks at the foster home.
He opens his eyes to darkness and he doesn’t know what time it is and he doesn’t know what day it is and the walls are still the same. White walls, off-white, souring milk, and he wonders, briefly, if they lay down a fresh coat for every sleeper.
He’s soaking under the sheets because it’s the middle of summer and he has them wrapped up around his neck, but he doesn’t dare move and make noise. There are other people in this house. He knows that and he can remember them, faces in the hallway and at the table. Dinners. Discussions. Days.
A twitch, a shiver, and he curls his fingers hard into the sheets, pulling fistfuls against his chest with both hands.
Help me, he mouths into the space between him and the walls. Oh help me help me help me.
He knows they already have.
