If you are like me and often don't pay much attention to the DW news page, you may have missed the notice that there are some significant design changes coming!

There is a window somewhere between a couple of weeks and a couple of months to comment on those changes and help the dev team address any major bugs.

Personally, I switched to the new Create Post mode earlier this year and have found it visually less 'pretty' but mechanically more workable, and I'm interested to see what doors might open up for the dev team once they're no longer strapped to maintaining ancient code, heh.

I am not sure if you use this feature but I personally find the new create post way more mobile-friendly than the old version, which is a significant plus for me.

Yeah! I switched back in Julyish? because someone rec'd it as the mobile friendly mode. That's not going to be a selling point for everyone, but I appreciate it!

I've been gone for a while... wow, so many changes! I just switched to the beta versions to try them out. They do seem more convenient to use. Thanks for the heads up!

I can understand why some people are a bit wrong-footed, it's been a long time since anything has been implemented on this scale!

Oh, thanks for the heads up about this. Switching to the beta Create Post page, I see why people are knee-jerk getting bent out of shape about it--it is different and not as pretty, and I can imagine people still using this format of social media are generally even more resistant to change than the average person haha. But I'm interested to try it out, and honestly glad that the dev team are still working on the site.

Yeah, it has been a LONG time since anything about DW has noticably changed, and it kind of means finally saying farewell to the old Create Post styles of LJ and its ilk. But, as the team points out, that code is like 25 years now and close to completely unsupported by modern browsers. So. All good things must come to an end, etc etc. Definitely rather deal with change that be stuck with developers who've checked out.

Yeah definitely. I also like...when I commented, I'd just clicked the toggle to switch it over to beta, and taken a brief look at it as a huge text box with everything else off screen at the bottom, and wasn't immediately a fan. But later I actually went in and messed around with the settings to change it to a two-column view and move each module around where I liked it, and now I love it actually? I sympathise with people not liking change, but this is a fantastic update, even if it wasn't being done out of necessity.

Aw good! The ability to switch off unused modules is a big win, and the two column set-up works well on desktop while still defaulting to a handy single column on mobile. I know there are still a number of folks upset that they can't set the icon to the left or above the create post buuuut it's impossible to please every single person when backed into the corner of having to make some kind of significant change, and I respect the dev team is pretty small and doing the best they can with the resources they have.

I'm a little more meh on the inbox because the text feels HUGE to me after so many years of teeny tiny font size, heh. But I'll adapt.
