It wasn't necessarily a bad twist in and of itself... the problem was just that the nature of Destiny meant that the storytelling was strung out over so many years (and, lbr, so many writers) that "oh he was lying actually" didn't feel satisfying to me when it suddenly landed. But there were other people for whom it worked, and I can understand that too! RIP my headcanons but they were always just that: headcanon.
LOL someone on DW introduced me to the term "vaguewriting" recently and I DEFINITELY had to employ that to fight my way to the finish on this one. But I'm glad it carries its own stylistic charm XD
