Good health news: Second COVID vaccination went in on Friday and, despite some wary prepping for side effects, I walked away with nothing but a sore arm and a mild headache, putting me in the lucky 50%. My poor aunt, on the other hand, had a full-blown allergic reaction to pfizer! Luckily they're so on guard for that sort of thing that they caught it immediately, and she just had a short stay in hospital and an instruction to switch to one of the other vaccines instead, ahah.
Somewhat less good health news: I feel like I've had more odd heart flutters lately than usual. They've been an on-and-off thing for years, and there's a genetic predisposition through my father, but it's been hitting at strange moments and sometimes leaving a lingering sense of discomfort. Not sure what the issue might be, though I doubt my current state of fitness is helping. I've had my blood pressure checked recently enough to be confident it's alright, but it has been a while since the ol' cholesterol was evaluated, and my resting heartrate is fairly poor. Shocking, I know, when I live such a low-stress lifestyle, replete with vegetables and exercise.
So besides a probable visit to the GP in the near future just to ensure there is nothing too worrisome going on below the surface, I've been contemplating a few steps I can make to improving my physical health. I've set myself the challenge of trying to eat 30 different plant-based foods per week, having been recommended this by someone who definitely knows what she's talking about, and that's already proving fairly entertaining. I like it because it doesn't make me obsess over what I Should Not Eat, and instead makes me go "ooh, if I eat this pear I will achieve ANOTHER PLANT". It's early days yet, but I think my gut already appreciates the effort.
As far as exercise goes, I'm calling it quits with the martial arts studio, regretfully - it's difficult to keep up with when my working hours are so irregular, and I just don't like this studio enough to go out of my way to make it work. So I'm back in the market for some kind of sport, but in the meantime I've decided to try and implement a small workout routine at home! My wing chun experiences have netted me a number of warm-ups and drills that I can string together easily enough, and they will probably do good things for my back as well.
Hopefully all of this will come together to offer some support to my poor neglected physical form before anything gets too dire. But if nothing else, I've rediscovered I like pears and blueberries.

Date: 2021-09-08 11:29 pm (UTC)Good luck with all things health-related! That plant-based foods challenge sounds like a great idea - it's so much easier and less stressful to add foods into your diet vs. focusing solely on cutting them out.
