Aug. 28th, 2021 10:53 amGently yoinking the AO3 meme that's been floating around :)
1) How many works do you have on AO3?
24
2) What’s your total AO3 word count?
49,895... shortfic life.
3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
Only counting AO3 works, 7 - Destiny, Red Vs Blue, Finisterre: the Nighthorses, His Dark Materials, Books of the Raksura, Person of Interest, and Fallout: New Vegas. Most of the latter are one-offs thus far.
4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
House Rules (RvB)
The Identity of Indiscernibles (RvB)
Turn By Turn (Raksura)
Endothermy (Destiny)
The Dead Ghost (Destiny)
I find it a little charming my Destiny fics featuring OCs scooped in more kudos than the ones focused on canon characters. It's a good fandom for appreciating personal stories.
5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
Sometimes... u_u I am very grateful for each and every one I receive, and truly I SHOULD at least respond with a 'thank you!', but sometimes my head is just far away.
6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Probably "Softly"? A tiny snapshot piece in the middle of a war, nothing nice happens, the end.
7) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
This is harder to judge - I'd say I aim for uplifting endings more often than not, but not necessarily fluffy ones. "Identity of Indiscernibles", maybe? Acceptance and moving on and moving in.
8) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?
Not often, but I am still very fond of "For Those Rebellious", a re-telling of a RvB: Recovery One episode in the His Dark Materials universe.
9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Nope.
10) Do you write smut? If so what kind?
I do not. I don't think I've even managed to write a kiss in any of these fics, good grief.
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of.
12) Have you ever had a fic translated?
Surprisingly yes! "Paterfamilias" exists in Korean, which I think is very cool.
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Noooo. My muse is too fickle and my temperament too jealous. The closest I get is co-writing scenarios / worldbuilds.
14) What’s your all time favorite ship?
I couldn't name you one. I am a multishipper with fluid interests; I cannot be tamed.
15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Lulz. In my own archives the WIPs are endless. For this reason there are none on AO3 unless you count the short oneshot collections that are only a ? because you never know, I may yet drabble some more.
16) What are your writing strengths?
Melancholy tones, prose with texture, less is more, I understand dialogue punctuation.
17) What are your writing weaknesses?
ACTUALLY WRITING ANYTHING, editing, pacing, I consciously fought for every description of scenery I have ever written, still not sure I understand the correct use of semi-colons.
18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Can add flavour if done well, but no I don't want to have to scroll to the bottom of your fic for the translations to entire conversations.
19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?
I'm sure there were earlier attempts scribbled in the backs of notebooks, but I think Halo fics were the first I posted to the internet.
20) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
I wrote "Trouble That Does Not Search Words" for an audience of Me.

Date: 2021-08-28 10:35 pm (UTC)I did see someone interpret the ship question as favourite ship to write, which on the one hand narrows down the options significantly for me, but on the other hand still doesn't leave me feeling there's any I can crown as The One.

Date: 2021-08-29 01:28 pm (UTC)Oh god I feel this in my soul. Can we not just write people floating through empty voids while they have intense feelings? No? Okay :(

Date: 2021-08-29 09:49 pm (UTC)That said, nothing I've read of your works has made the scene-setting feel absent or belaboured, so clearly the effort is worth it!

Date: 2021-09-04 02:28 am (UTC)but - "prose with texture" - yes! i love reading your writing because there are so often sentences or sentiments that i just want to chew on for awhile (which, to be clear, is a good thing).

Date: 2021-09-08 11:43 pm (UTC)An eternal mood. ;o;
I am now very curious about your old Halo fic! It was one of my staple fandoms as a teenager, but I don't think I posted any actual fic for it until I joined AO3 in 2014.

Date: 2021-09-10 11:25 pm (UTC)There's a slim chance I still have the Halo fics in storage somewhere, but otherwise they're probably lost to time. They were very OC based anyway X3 The most comprehensive was about a squad of marines, because I guess I felt bad for all the mooks I couldn't save.
