Date: 2020-03-26 01:36 am (UTC)1. Rowan of Rin series by Emily Rodda - a childhood favourite with simple but well-spun worldbuilding, and an emphasis on people who don't fit in still being valuable and the strength of community.
2. Protector of the Small quartet by Tamora Pierce - another childhood fave, in which someone works really hard and tries to do the right thing and it mostly pays off. And I like the focus on the smaller life moments compared to Alanna or Daine, who have extremely high stakes adventures all of the time.
3. The Books of the Raksura, by Martha Wells - just this morning a friend linked me to a really great post about why these books are such good comfort food.
4. The Complete James Herriot - levels of comfort depend on the individual story, but there's so much of humans being humans swirled in with a love of animals and it's a comfy place to sink into.
5. Dogsbody by Diana Wynne Jones - hello, my name is Winger, I like reading the books I loved as a kid when I'm blue.
