I landed back in Australia midday Saturday and returned to work Monday, so I am currently in that folorn post-holiday period where it would have been nice to have another week to adapt to normal routines before I had to start thinking about event management and final reports. It doesn't help that jetlag has been kicking my ass a bit; I'd hoped crashing for 12 hours on Saturday would restore me to factory defaults, but I still feel like I'd rather be asleep right now, so I guess there's a little while to go yet.

A full write-up of the adventures is forthcoming, but the short of the long of it is I had a wonderful time, saw many amazing things, and just really enjoyed getting to hang out with friends in defiance of tyrannical distance. Fortunately I was smart enough to take a travel journal with me to keep track of exactly what happened when - the very same journal I used during my first multi-week USA excursion in 2010, no less! I'm pretty sure I could squeeze at least one more trip in there. Maybe in another 12 years' time.

The Town has cheerfully greeted me with the tail end of an absolutely rancid heatwave, news that energy prices are expected to rocket up by 50% by 2024, and early warnings that we'll likely see an above average number of cyclones this season. Deliciously apocalyptic! At least I saw Yellowstone before I had to start wearing questionable leather outfits and roaming the desert with a shotgun and a dog.

I think the most depressing thing about the energy hikes is it feels like every single sci-fi / dystopian future media property has been predicting this for a VERY LONG TIME, and we're still here anyway. C'mon, guys.
