meme: 'about you', video games edition
Found this floating about the interwebs and it seems like a decent catalogue! I attempted to avoid doubles as much as I could, haha.
1) Favourite game of all time:
Hm. Three-way tie between Fallout: New Vegas, Mass Effect 2, and INSIDE.
2) Favourite series:
It's gotta be Mass Effect.
3) Best soundtrack:
Halo 4. Don't @ me.
4) Favourite protagonist:
I'm going to cheat and nominate the deuteragonists of Tales from the Borderlands, Rhys and Fiona, because I enjoy them both very much. Also this question is making me realise how few games I play with set protagonists.
5) Favourite villain:
Kerrigan probably doesn't count since she's not really a villain in the game itself. The Sunken from Oxenfree were very compelling antagonists?
6) Best story:
The Last of Us feels like a bit of a cheater's answer in some ways - it's not the most unique story, but it's exceptionally well-told. I would otherwise nominate Sunless Sea and A House of Many Doors, which couch their story story in the worldbuilding in such a way that you have to fight to get it to unfold, but get to enjoy a feeling of real revelation for the effort.
7) Have not played but want to:
My wishlist is... enormous.
8) Game you love, but everyone hates:
Mass Effect 3 was fairly polarising, to say the least, but I landed on the side of having a pretty good time! Sure, they ended up promising more than could really be delivered and aspects of the story / individual characters were shafted as a result; I still found most of my pressing emotional needs were satisfactorily addressed.
9) Game you hate but everyone loves:
I wouldn't say I hate Fallout 4, but I do sneer at it when we're in the same room.
10) Best art style:
Gris is the prettiest game I have ever played.
11) Favourite ending:
INSIDE. What the hell was that.
12) Favourite boss fight:
I honestly can't think of any single boss fight off the top of my head, but Halo and Destiny were generally full of quality experiences for epic throwdowns. Oh, and fighting a Reaper on foot. I did love that whole sequence.
13) Childhood game:
StarCraft!
14) Relaxing game:
Journey is a very soothing experience overall.
15) Stressful game:
S O M A jgfhsgjhg.
16) Game you always come back to:
Pokemon: HeartGold is my comfort food equivalent.
17) Guilty pleasure:
Wayhaven Chronicles >>
18) Tons of hours played:
Ah, yon Mass Effect...

It took me a few cracks at Wayhaven to find a route that worked for me, and it's very... well, urban fantasy... but I do have to admire the effort the writer has gone to in weaving choices in! Fallen Hero: Rebirth had the stronger narrative imo, but it doesn't look like the writer's going to put out any further stories, boo :/
